FIRST CONGRESS OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF PERU: GREETINGS FROM CHAIRMAN GONZALO

After a long journey, we are gathered here to celebrate the First Congress of the Communist Party of Peru, which is our main Task, the center that will endorse the brilliant and victorious culmination that we have achieved in this Second Campaign. We are honored to be here, and being here is one more triumph of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism to establish one more triumph of the People’s War. All of us here present must feel deeply moved to be members of the First Congress of the Communist Party of Peru. We assume the task of making this Congress a victorious Congress, a triumphant Congress. This is our historical need, it is a consequence of our long journey, and it is the personal decision of each one of us to fight for the golden brilliance of this Congress.

This date will remain indelible and each one of us already has and will have more in the future the brilliant honor of having belonged to it, capturing decades of ardent combat by the proletariat and establishing a milestone that we have only been able to achieve with the People’s War.

First of all, on behalf of the Permanent Committee, the Political Bureau, and your comrades,³ we express a full greeting of the enthusiasm that the Congress gives us, because this Congress in each one of us understandably sets our souls on fire, elevates them, catapults them, and the enthusiasm could be nothing but a red flag hoisted up to the sky, a waving flag, a flag full of light that will mark the process of the Peruvian Revolution for decades and thus serve the world revolution, thus putting at the top the unfading flags of Marx, of Lenin, and of Chairman Mao, three flags of victory that will always remain firmly in the hands of the international proletariat of which we are a vibrant part.

Please receive this greeting and in you we salute the leaders, cadres, and militants of our Party, the Communist Party of Peru, an ardent, thunderous greeting as it corresponds to greet the combatants of the People’s Guerrilla Army⁴ and our grateful greeting from sons of the Peruvian proletariat and the Peruvian people, I salute the masses of our country and the masses of the world because they are the ones who have made, are making, and will make the great transformations, from their glorious hands the new will always come out to guide humanity.

It is a tremendous occasion when we are gathered together: how many dreams come true are concretely realized here, how many dreams of comrades who have given their blood so we could be here celebrating the Congress, how much has it cost our people for us to be here, because the people are the main source of which we drink strength and throbbing energy that allows us to fulfill what history disposes, transforming the necessity.

We are here first and foremost because of the undefeated ideology of the international proletariat, because of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, principally Maoism; we are also here as a concrete realization of that great almighty truth by application to our concrete reality from which Gonzalo Thought comes. Without Marx, or Lenin, or Chairman Mao we would not be here, without the international proletariat plus the masses of the world we would not be here. Be deeply convinced and acutely clear on this, with a penetrating historical vision.

It is very understandable that we greet you from the full enthusiasm that the Congress gives us, the Congress impresses us by renewing our souls as Communists. May this greeting be the greeting that the Central Leadership extends to you from this crucible that begins to burn today and that will cradle victory, the triumph of the democratic revolution in this country, serving the world revolution and persisting in upholding, defending, and applying Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, principally Maoism. Zest, comrades, welcome to this historic First Congress.
